Adelaide’s best FHB suburbs revealed

With first home buyers in Adelaide being limited to $400,00 or less to be eligible for government support, new research has revealed the most liveable and affordable spots for those looking to take advantage of the scheme.

People’s Choice believes first home buyers should be looking at the northern part of the metropolitan, with Modbury North being named the best value for money.

“Modbury North is the real star of this new edition of the People’s Choice of Housing. 

“It’s the number one suburb for first home buyers, and it’s also the number one in our overall ranking for the whole of greater Adelaide. To have a suburb that ranks number one for affordability and liveability, that’s also accessible to people just entering the market is quite amazing,” People’s Choice chief executive officer Steve Laidlaw said.

Located just 14km from the heart of the city, Modbury North’s median price is $364,500, which is at the high end for first home buyers scheme but is mitigated by a range of other factors, including good access to public transport, an average crime rate, local schools and child care centres, and plenty of long-term residents.

SeafordSeaford, SA Seaford, VIC Heights is the highest-rated suburb in the south, its distance from the centre of Adelaide and its relatively poor public transport connections balanced against a very low crime rate, which many will find appealing,” Mr Laidlaw said.

“But perhaps the standout on the list is Nairne to the east, which most first home buyers could easily overlook. In the Adelaide Hills, 30km from the city, it’s a thriving town with seven licensed venues, local education and childcare options and a great safety record.”

This year, the report analysed data on 363 suburbs and locations across South Australia, which fell within the overall affordability criteria.

“The coronavirus has definitely affected real estate, but those researching and ready to move now may find they have access to opportunities that others don’t. First mover advantage may deliver some excellent benefits – including your dream home,” Mr Laidlaw said. 

“And that’s the great power of the People’s Choice of Housing – it allows you to compare and contrast suburbs at a much deeper level, to help you make the decision that’s right for you.”
