Surburb overview

Davidson is a suburb located approximately 20 kilometres north-east of Sydney's central business district, within the Northern Beaches Council area of New South Wales, Australia. It is part of the Forest District and is adjacent to Belrose and Frenchs Forest on the eastern edge of Garigal National Park.

Named after Sir Walter Davidson, Governor of New South Wales from 1918 to 1923, the suburb began as a mining quarry and began residential development in the late 1970s.

Due to its quarry origins and proximity to Garigal National Park, Davidson has uneven topography. Streets like Stone Parade and Borgnis Street have steep descents, while areas like Prahran Avenue and Kambora Avenue exhibit more undulating landscapes. The suburb has Eucalyptus and Liquidambar trees, which provide a habitat for native birds like Kookaburras and Rainbow Lorikeets.

The suburb adjoins Garigal and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Parks. It contains several reserves suitable for picnics and leisurely activities, including McFarlane Reserve, Maitland Street Reserve, Aranda Place Reserve, and Richard Healy Oval.

Davidson is home to two primary schools, Kambora Public School and St Martin De Porres Catholic Primary School. Notably, Davidson High School, despite its name, is located in the neighbouring suburb of Frenchs Forest.

A shopping complex at the corner of Yindela Street and Pound Avenue houses a café, hair salon, sports injury clinic, and the suburb's only apartment accommodations. The Davidson Rural Fire Brigade, established in 1976, is also based here and is one of 13 brigades in the Warringah/Pittwater District of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service.

As of the 2021 census, Davidson had 2,725 residents. The most common ancestries reported were English (49.2%), Australian (31.9%), Irish (13.6%), Scottish (11.3%), and Chinese (4.7%). Approximately 69.2% of residents were born in Australia, with 10.7% in England. English is the predominant language spoken at home (86.7%).

Each December, Davidson is known for its festive display of Christmas lights, particularly along Borgnis Street, attracting visitors across Sydney.

Davidson offers natural beauty, community spirit, and convenient amenities, making it a desirable suburb within Sydney's Northern Beaches region.
