Residents have a median age of 39 years, with children aged 0–14 and older adults aged over 65 each comprising roughly 21% and 19% of the population, respectively.

Approximately 63 per cent of residents were born in Australia, while Lebanon, India, Malta, China and the Philippines represent significant birthplaces. About 55 per cent speak only English at home, joined by Arabic (13 per cent), Maltese, Greek, Turkish and Croatian speakers. Catholicism is the dominant religious affiliation (44.7 per cent), followed by those reporting no religion (13 per cent) and Islam (8.3 per cent).

Greystanes lacks a railway station, but it benefits from major roads, including the M4 Western Motorway and the Cumberland and Great Western highways, for commuter access. A network of bus routes (800, 806, 809, 810X, 811X and 818) connects Greystanes to Parramatta, Blacktown, Merrylands and Westmead hospitals.

Several heritage-listed sites exist within the suburb, notably the Boothtown Aqueduct, Lower Prospect Canal Reserve, Prospect Hill, and Grey Box Reserve—a remnant of the Cumberland Plain Woodland.

Education provision includes five public primary schools, two high schools and a Catholic college, with Holroyd High School offering an Intensive English Centre. Commercial facilities centre around the Greystanes Shopping Centre, anchored by a Woolworths and complemented by service providers.

Recreation draws on extensive green spaces: the Lower Prospect Canal Reserve offers cycleways and heritage structures, the Grey Box Reserve preserves Cumberland Plain woodland, and the Gipps Road Sporting Complex and Rosford Street Reserve support football, cricket, and BMX.

The well-established suburb offers transport accessibility via road and bus, a multicultural demographic mix, a range of educational institutions, and protected reserves that reflect both the historical and ecological identity of Greystanes.
