Villawood is located approximately 27 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, within the City of Canterbury-Bankstown and City of Fairfield local government areas.

The suburb recorded a population of 7,051 in 2021, marking almost 17 per cent growth since 2016, with a median age of 34 years and a strong presence of residents aged 20–29.

Cultural diversity defines the community, as fewer than half were born in Australia; the next most common birthplaces include Vietnam (12.7 per cent), Lebanon (7.3 per cent) and China (3.4 per cent), with Lebanese and Vietnamese ancestries well represented. Only 22.7 per cent speak English exclusively at home, while Arabic and Vietnamese are significant home languages.

Villawood railway station on the Main Southern line is approximately 24.5 kilometres from Central, serviced by Sydney Trains’ T3 Liverpool & Inner West Line, and hosts around 708 entries and exits daily.

Leightonfield station offers additional rail access nearby. Bus routes 905, 907, S4 and NightRide N50 link residents to Bankstown, Parramatta, Liverpool and Chester Hill.

About 4.5 per cent of people used public transport to commute, while 54.4 per cent travelled by car and 20.6 per cent worked from home.

Essential services cluster around Woodville Road near the station, where recent refurbishment has attracted new supermarkets, chemists and cafés after an earlier decline. An industrial business park sits to the west, housing logistics and hardware enterprises.
