Fairfield East is located approximately 27 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, situated within the City of Fairfield in Greater Western Sydney.

The suburb spans approximately 4.4 square kilometres, with around 25 per cent of that occupied by light industrial zones, while the remainder supports residential dwellings and small commercial precincts.

At the 2021 Census, Fairfield East recorded a population of 5,198, a modest increase from earlier counts, reflecting steady growth. 

The community exhibits notable cultural diversity, with 39 per cent of residents born in Australia. Significant ancestries include Vietnamese (19 per cent), Iraqi (7 per cent), and Lebanese or Chinese, and many households speak Vietnamese, Arabic, or Cantonese at home. Family compositions dominate, with couples with children representing nearly half of households.

The suburb is served by Yennora and Fairfield railway stations on the Main Southern line, offering frequent commuter services to central Sydney. At the same time, multiple bus routes traverse The Horsley Drive and Tangerine Street. Despite this, over half of employed residents continue to commute by private car, with under five per cent using public transport.

Essential services in Fairfield East include local shops along Tangerine Street, a BP service station, cafés and a takeaway outlet. Major retailers and medical centres cluster just beyond the eastern boundary in Villawood, while the Fair­field CBD—home to supermarkets, fresh food markets and government offices—lies a short drive away.

Residents benefit from several small recreational reserves, including Montrose Park, Hamilton Grove Park, and Blackford Park. Burns Creek riparian zones and Hanson Reserve provide walking trails and picnic spaces.

The nearby Fairfield Park Precinct encompasses 18 hectares of open parkland, sports fields, aquatic facilities and the Fairfield Adventure Park playground, all within walking distance of local homes and the railway station.

Fairfield East combines residential calm with accessible transport links, multicultural vibrancy and proximity to both light industrial employment and extensive recreational amenities.
