Greenacre lies about 20 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district and falls mainly within the City of Canterbury‑Bankstown, with a small eastern portion in the Municipality of Strathfield.
It carries postcode 2190 and occupies a flat mainly of land at an elevation of 33 metres above sea level. The 2021 Census recorded 26,314 residents, marking an 8 per cent increase from 24,373 in 2016.
The median age stood at 33 years, younger than the state median, and about 23.9 per cent of residents were aged under 14 years. Just over half of the population (52.9 per cent) were born in Australia, with Lebanon (13.0 per cent), Vietnam and Bangladesh among the top overseas birthplaces.
Only around 26.7 per cent spoke only English at home, while Arabic (38.7 per cent), Urdu, Vietnamese, Greek and Bengali featured prominently. Islam represented the most common religious affiliation at 46.8 per cent, followed by Catholic at 20.3 per cent.
Households averaged approximately 3.4 people with a median weekly household income close to $1,449 and about 63.1 per cent owner‑occupied dwellings.
Most employed residents travelled to work by car as a driver or passenger (about 47.3 per cent), while only around 3.2 per cent used public transport.
Bus services link Greenacre with Strathfield, Burwood, Bankstown, Punchbowl and Lakemba stations along major roads such as Waterloo Road, Boronia Road and Juno Parade.
A modest commercial zone runs along Waterloo Road in the south, and residents rely partly on nearby Chullora Market Place to the north for shopping and dining.
Greenacre supports several public and private schools, including Greenacre Public School, Banksia Road Primary and faith‑based institutions such as Malek Fahd Islamic School and Al Noori Muslim School.
Residents access recreation in local parks such as Roberts Park, Lockwood Park, Allum Park, Gosling Park, Greenacre Heights Reserve, Bromley Reserve, Mimosa Reserve and Norfolk Reserve, many of which offer sports fields, playgrounds and bushland remnants.
Local sport clubs include rugby league, soccer, bowls and an RSL club, while the Greenacre Area Community Centre and library facility provide youth programs, art classes and gentle exercise activities.
