Yagoona lies about twenty kilometres south‑west of the Sydney central business district within the City of Canterbury‑Bankstown local government area. The suburb recorded a population of 19,651 at the 2021 Census, with a modest increase since 2016, indicating steady growth in the local community.
Almost 49.6 per cent of residents were born in Australia, with Vietnam (12.1 per cent), Lebanon (8.4 per cent), China (2.0 per cent), North Macedonia (1.8 per cent) and Syria (1.5 per cent) among the other common countries of birth.
Only around 27.9 per cent of households reported speaking English only at home. In comparison, Arabic (27.2 per cent), Vietnamese (15.8 per cent), Macedonian (3.0 per cent), Cantonese (2.6 per cent), and Urdu (1.8 per cent) were prominent languages.
