Bardwell Valley lies approximately 11 kilometres south‑west of the Sydney central business district within the Bayside Council area and the St George region. Approximately 62.9 per cent of residents were born in Australia, with Lebanon (5.7 per cent) among the more common overseas birthplaces. English only featured in just over 52 per cent of households, while Arabic (15.4 per cent) and Greek (6.7 per cent) appeared among the most prevalent other languages spoken at home.

Employed residents used public transport at approximately 5.6 per cent and travelled by car as driver or passenger at about 38.4 per cent on census day. Bardwell Valley lacks its railway station; the nearest public transport access is at Bardwell Park station on the T8 Airport & South Line in the neighbouring suburb.

Bus route 473 operates via the suburb, linking it to Campsie, Rockdale, Earlwood and Hurstville, while route 491 connects to Five Dock and Kogarah via Earlwood and Bexley North. Road connections include Wolli Creek Valley streets and proximity to the M5 motorway via Arncliffe and Bexley North entry points.

Residential character consists mainly of detached houses and sandstone cottages along Bardwell Creek, with some medium‑density development in The Glen and East Street areas.
