Woronora Heights is a residential suburb in the Sutherland Shire, located about 33 kilometres south of the Sydney central business district. It is situated on an elevated ridge west of the Woronora River, bordered by Engadine to the south and Bangor to the west. Established primarily during the late 20th century, the suburb is characterised by its planned residential layout, bushland surrounds and elevated outlooks.

The suburb has a population of around 2,900 people, according to the latest census. Most residents were born in Australia, with smaller communities from England, New Zealand and South Africa. English is the dominant language spoken at home, though Greek and Italian are also represented. Families form the core of the demographic, with many households comprising couples with children. Housing is almost entirely detached dwellings, with modern designs and larger block sizes standard throughout the suburb.

Public transport is limited to bus services that link Woronora Heights with Engadine and Sutherland railway stations on the Illawarra line. From these stations, trains provide regular services to the Sydney CBD, Hurstville, Cronulla and Wollongong. Road access is via Warrangarree Drive, which connects the suburb with the Princes Highway and surrounding areas. The reliance on private vehicles is high due to the limited direct transport options.

Essential services within Woronora Heights include a small local shopping centre with convenience stores, cafes and community facilities. Broader retail, educational and healthcare services are accessed in nearby Engadine, Bangor and Sutherland. Schools serving the area include Engadine High School and Woronora River Public School, with additional options available in adjoining suburbs. Healthcare is provided at Sutherland Hospital and Kareena Private Hospital.

Recreational amenities are well supported, with local parks, playgrounds and reserves providing space for community activities. The suburb’s elevated location offers access to walking trails and bushland areas, while the nearby Woronora River provides opportunities for fishing, kayaking, and picnicking. Sporting fields and clubs in surrounding suburbs further enhance recreational opportunities for residents.
