Jilliby (postcode 2259) lies in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, situated about 8 kilometres north-north-west of Wyong and approximately 99 kilometres north of Sydney’s central business district by road.

According to the 2021 Census, Jilliby had a population of approximately 1,694 people living in around 533 dwellings. The median age in the area is 44 years, which is above the New South Wales average, and approximately 3 per cent of residents identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Most residents were born in Australia (about 88 per cent), and nearly 96 per cent of households speak only English at home. Religiously, the most common affiliations are “No Religion” (31.7%), Catholic (23.7%), and Anglican (22.8%).

Jilliby is predominantly rural, with farms, bushland, and low-density residential holdings prevailing. Given its sparse settlement pattern, Jilliby is largely car-dependent, with public transport being limited or not widely adopted as a primary mode of travel. In the 2021 Census, only about 0.7 per cent of commuters used public transport, while over half drove a car.

Essential services—such as hospitals, large shopping centres, secondary schools and commercial hubs—are generally located in nearby Wyong, Tuggerah or Lake Haven, which residents access by road. Primary education is available in neighbouring localities, but within Jilliby itself, there are few, if any, major schools or medical facilities.

Recreational opportunities are anchored by the nearby Jilliby State Conservation Area, covering over 12,000 hectares. The conservation area supports bushwalking, four-wheel driving, horse riding, picnicking, and birdwatching, with more than 130 bird species recorded. The rural landscape also invites outdoor pursuits, such as trail riding, cycling, and nature observation, across private and public bushland.
