Tuggerah (postcode 2259) is a mixed-use suburb in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, about 91 kilometres north of Sydney and 68 kilometres south of Newcastle. It lies immediately south of Wyong and west of Tuggerah Lake, with major transport corridors, such as the Pacific Motorway and railway line, passing nearby.

According to the 2021 Census, Tuggerah has a population of 925 people. The median age is 35 years, and households average 2.5 persons. About 60 per cent of homes are owner-occupied. In terms of income, the median weekly household income is around $1,569, the median monthly mortgage repayments are about $1,625, and the median weekly rent is $418.

Tuggerah benefits from substantial public transport access. Tuggerah railway station is located on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line and serves as a key node in the area. The station is undergoing upgrades under the NSW Transport Access Program to improve accessibility. Multiple bus routes also service the suburb, linking it with neighbouring centres and stations. Road connectivity is strong, as the Pacific Motorway runs nearby, and the suburb is situated along the Pacific Highway corridor.

Essential services in Tuggerah are extensive, reflecting its role as a commercial hub. The suburb is home to Westfield Tuggerah and the Tuggerah Supa Centre, as well as numerous shops, offices, light industrial sites, and business parks. Educational facilities include Tuggerah Public School and its catchment area, as well as the surrounding secondary schools. Health services, larger retail and specialist infrastructure are generally accessed in Wyong or Lake Haven.

Recreational opportunities are available on the lake, in reserves, and through regional plans. Tuggerah Lake and its foreshore support walking paths, birdwatching and light water recreation. The suburb itself contains 14 parks, which cover around 23.3 per cent of its area. In broader regional planning, Tuggerah lies within the “Tuggerah to Wyong Corridor”, where strategies aim to improve pedestrian and cycle connectivity, public transport interfaces and sustainable land use over the coming decades.

Recent planning proposals point to further residential development adjacent to the town centre. A 42-hectare site near the M1 has been rezoned with approval to accommodate over 1,300 dwellings along with complementary commercial, recreation and community facilities. Among property market metrics, the median house price is estimated at approximately $815,000, while the median unit price is roughly $582,500.
