Sunshine is a small lakeside suburb in the City of Lake Macquarie, NSW, with postcode 2264, positioned on a peninsula on the western side of Lake Macquarie and about nine kilometres east of Morisset.

Sydney’s central business district is about 119 kilometres away by road, while Newcastle provides the closer major metropolitan centre.

The 2021 Census recorded 475 residents in Sunshine, including 50.5 per cent male and 49.5 per cent female, with a median age of 50, compared with 39 across NSW.

The suburb had 233 private dwellings, an average household size of 2.5 people and a median weekly household income of $1,575.

English and Australian were the most commonly reported ancestries, followed by Irish and Scottish, while 7.6 per cent of residents identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Sunshine does not have a railway station; Morisset provides the nearest major rail connection and intercity services to Sydney and Newcastle.

Local bus services provide another transport option around the Morisset Peninsula, although residents generally need to travel outside Sunshine for a broader range of public transport connections.

Education options in the wider area include Brightwaters Christian College and Morisset High School, while Morisset and Bonnells Bay contain additional schools and childcare services.

Everyday shopping and healthcare are also concentrated in surrounding centres, including Coles Bonnells Bay and Ochre Medical Centre Bonnells Bay.

The suburb’s Lake Macquarie frontage provides opportunities for boating, fishing and other water-based activities, with South Lake Macquarie Amateur Sailing Club located on Sunshine Parade.

Public open spaces include Sunshine Park, Waterside Reserve and Sunshine Baths Reserve, reflecting the suburb’s close physical relationship with the lake.
