Surburb overview

Stanwell Park, located in the suburb of Wollongong, is a seaside neighbourhood and one of the country’s most prestigious postcode. It lies north of the Illawarra coast and on the foot of Sydney’s Royal National Park, straddling a valley between Mount Mitchell and Bald Hill. It’s approximately an hour away from Sydney via train and private vehicle.

Things to do in Stanwell Park

Stanwell Park’s beach provides a great venue for a variety of water sports, while its northern and southern ends are known fishing destinations. The surrounding lookouts offer a magnificent view of the South Pacific Ocean, and are often used as a take-off point for tandem hang gliding. State parks are also close by for camping enthusiasts.

Stanwell Park’s place in history is due to its role in aviation, having been the site of where the first box kite was flown in Australia. The box kite was invented by a Stanwell Park resident Lawrence Hargrave, touted as the “first successful aeronautical inventor”. Today, this legacy is celebrated by proud locals through the annual “Festival of Flight”.

Bayside lifestyle

The average home prices in Stanley Park have significantly risen in the past three years as plenty of buyers, mostly from Sydney, develop an affinity for Wollongong’s outdoor lifestyle. Monied investors prize properties for sale in Stanwell Park for its relative affordability, compared with other localities near the sands and surf.
