Hope Island is a suburb of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. As of the 2021 census, it had a population of 14,522 residents.
On the northern Gold Coast, Hope Island is bounded by the Coomera River to the west, northwest, and north. The river splits into northern and southern branches around Coomera Island to the east, with the south branch forming the eastern boundary of Hope Island. Saltwater Creek defines its southwest and southern borders. The suburb is characterised by its waterways and proximity to the Broadwater, making it a prime location for boating and waterfront living.
The area was initially known by the Indigenous name "Boykambil." It was later named Hope Island after Captain Louis Hope, who was granted land in the area in recognition of his contributions to developing the sugar industry in Queensland during the 19th century.
Hope Island boasts a range of amenities catering to residents and visitors. The suburb has several marinas, including Hope Harbour Marina, Hope Island Resort Marina, and Sanctuary Cove Marina, providing extensive facilities for boating enthusiasts.
Three prominent golf courses—The Palms Golf Course, Sanctuary Cove Golf & Country Club, and Hope Island Resort Golf Course—offer world-class golfing experiences.
The Hope Island Marina Shopping Village features a Coles supermarket, specialty stores, waterfront cafes, and restaurants. Additional shopping areas include Hope Island Central and various establishments along Hope Island Road, providing services such as veterinary clinics and childcare facilities.
The suburb is well-connected by road because of its proximity to the M1 Motorway, offering easy access to Brisbane and other parts of the Gold Coast. Bus services, including routes 711 and 718, operated by Surfside Buslines, connect Hope Island to Southport and Helensvale Station, respectively. Golf buggies are a popular mode of transport within Hope Island Resort and the neighbouring Sanctuary Cove Resort. A recently completed buggy path links the two resorts, enhancing accessibility.
While Hope Island does not have schools directly within it, nearby educational institutions include Coomera State School, Coombabah State School, and Helensvale State High School.
