Upper Swan, approximately 33 kilometres north-east of Perth's central business district, is a suburb within the City of Swan. It is situated at the confluence of the Swan River, the Millendon Junction to Narngulu railway line, and the Great Northern Highway. 

As of the 2021 census, Upper Swan had a population of 549 residents, with a median age of 52. The predominant ancestries include English (47.7%), Australian (36.1%), Scottish (9.8%), Irish (8.4%), and Italian (4.9%). Approximately 2.4% of the population identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and 74.7% of residents were born in Australia. 

The suburb features a mix of rural and industrial land uses, including vineyards, equestrian estates, and quarries. The Ellen Brook Nature Reserve, an 83-hectare wetland conservation area established in 1962, is located in the northern part of Upper Swan. This reserve is one of only two habitats for the critically endangered Western Swamp Tortoise. 

Upper Swan hosts three service stations along the Great Northern Highway, offering light shopping and café options. Notably, Ginger's Roadhouse has been in continuous operation since the 1950s. For more extensive retail and civic services, residents typically visit the nearby centre of Ellenbrook. Upper Swan Primary School provides primary education, while high school students are within the catchment area of Aveley Secondary College in Ellenbrook. 

The Great Northern Highway (National Highway 95) traverses Upper Swan from north to south, connecting it to Bullsbrook in the north and Midland to the south. Transperth operates bus routes 310 and 311, serving Upper Swan and providing access to Midland Station. Additionally, Transwa offers a stop in Upper Swan for its Mid-West regional coach routes to Moora, Geraldton, and Kalbarri. 

Bells Rapids Park, located in the eastern part of Upper Swan, is a popular spot for picnicking and offers trails leading to Mount Mambup on the Darling Scarp. Pullman Park is a rehabilitated quarry area south of the Yagan Bridge. The suburb's landscape includes various equestrian facilities, wineries, and hobby farms, contributing to its rural charm. 

Upper Swan combines rural and industrial elements, offering residents a tranquil environment with essential amenities and convenient access to Perth's urban centres.
