Darling Downs is a semi-rural suburb located approximately 34 kilometres south-southeast of Perth's central business district. It is within the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale and covers an area of around 9.8 square kilometres. The suburb's name, referencing its proximity to the Darling Scarp, was officially adopted in 1997.

According to the 2021 Census, Darling Downs had a population of 1,591 residents. The median age was 39, with a gender distribution of approximately 47.3% male and 52.7% female. The community includes a small proportion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, accounting for 1.8% of the population.

Public transportation is available through Transperth bus services, notably routes 249, 251, 252, 253, and 254, which connect residents to Armadale Station and surrounding areas.  From Armadale Station, commuters can access the broader Perth rail network.
