Gold Coast set for revival
A $1 billion project has been approved for the Gold Coast, according to deputy premier Jeff Seeney.
The project, a resort in Surfers Paradise called ‘Jewel resort’, is a vote of confidence for the area and will encourage jobs and new residential apartments as well as hotel-style accommodation.

"There is a billion dollar investment at stake here and more than 3,000 jobs were riding on the outcome - the jobs of the 2,500 construction workers and the 670 hospitality staff and other workers who will build, operate and occupy this development,” Mr Seeney said.
"It will provide new business opportunities in the local area and contribute to growing and stimulating the tourism and construction industries.”
New pedestrian areas will be activated as a result, and the coastal strip will also be set for ‘rejuvenation’ around Old Burleigh Road.
It will contain three high-rises, including some offices and retail spaces.
While the development had been objected to by some parties previously, despite approval from the Gold Coast City Council, with the minister’s approval it can now not be appealed in the Planning and Environment Court.
