Coastal area's future set to change
One area’s future may be just about to turn, according to a Regional Council’s consultation over a draft plan.
Queensland’s Sunshine Coast is currently toying with policy changes that will significantly alter the future of the region, deputy premier Jeff Seeney said.
The Sunshine Coast Regional Council is currently looking at replacing its Caloundra City Plan 2004, Maroochy Plan 2000 and Noosa Plan 2006 with one planning scheme to better plan the regional area.
“The local planning scheme has the potential to empower the Council to plan for the region’s future and provides a framework for sustainable growth management on the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Seeney said.
“To ensure the delivery of an efficient, effective and accountable planning scheme, Council has reduced the assessment levels for a range of low risk activities and removed unnecessary or overlapping code provisions.
“This red tape reduction is a positive outcome and supports commercial, industry, and rural uses.”
The public will be asked to comment later this month until early December 2012.
“Council will listen to the community during public consultation to make sure this draft plan leads the region through economic recovery, creates jobs, revitalises tourism and creates opportunities for farming communities.”
