Melbourne's 40-year plan
Melbourne’s long-term future is currently under discussion, prompted by the ‘Melbourne, let’s talk about the future’ paper, which could potentially shape its future success.
The first discussions began yesterday, as Victoria’s planning minister, Matthew Guy, explained that these discussions would help shape the 40-year future of the metropolitan city.

"The Metropolitan Planning Strategy is a 40-year plan,” said Mr Guy.
“Injecting the ideas of our next generation of planning professionals into the development of this strategy will help us shape a document that will drive metropolitan planning for future generations," he said.
"It is critical that all parts of our community have the opportunity to have their say on what they believe Melbourne should look like 40 years from now.
"As Melbourne grows, we must plan to secure our city's liveability and prosperity," Mr Guy said.
The discussion roundtable included members of the Planning Institute of Australia, Victorian Planning and Environmental Law Association, Urban Development Institute of Australia, Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand, Young Institute of Public Administration Australia and Youth Affairs Council of Victoria.
Within the discussion paper are the ideas of having a ‘polycentric city’ linked to the main regional hubs, as well as a ’20 minute’ city with better transport links.
