A trip across the country
While he’s known for flying around the country to snap up bargains for his investors, wHeregroup location researcher and buyer’s agent Todd Hunter has been travelling Australia on a different challenge.
The annual Postie Bike Challenge, which ran this month, was a trip from Hobart to Alice Springs – on a postie bike. In its 12th year, Mr Hunter decided to take part and raise some money for charity. The trip covered 4,000 kilometres over 10 days, averaging 350 kilometres a day.

At 8am on Wednesday, August 7, 52 riders on Honda CT110 motorcycles departed from Hobart Showgrounds, Tasmania. Covering terrain as vast as the dirt tracks of South Australia's Flinders Ranges, the icy Tasmanian highlands and the outback Oodnadatta Track, it was a tough gig for all of the participants.
Provided with the motorcycle (with attached milk crate), an 80 litre duffle bag, a fluoro vest, atlas, first aid kit, spare parts, fuel, and access to mechanics, as well as a few other necessities, they were sent on the road. A total of $5,850 was paid by each participant, which went directly back into supporting the event.
Mr Hunter even grabbed a copy of Smart Property Investment while he was on the road to give us a shout out as one of the major sponsors.
At the end of the event, the motorcycles were donated to the Rotary Club of Alice Springs, auctioned and the proceeds shared with the Glenorchy Rotary Club.
Organiser of the event Dan Gridley explains: “From its inception in 2002, The Postie Challenge has become an established event on the annual motorcycle calendar. Over 500 riders from around the globe have now taken the challenge and donated over $600,000 worth of motorcycles and funds to support local, national and international charities.”

"Overall, it was a great trip. But it was a tough one at times. Monday was 'doctor day' for Ken and myself, with results back on Tuesday – Ken has a snapped achilles to be operated on, seeing him out of action for a couple of months, and myself – three broken ribs," Mr Hunter says.
