SA welcomes first high density community
South Australia is geared to welcome one of the state’s most significant urban developments in history, following the state government’s final approval for the Bowden Urban Village project.
SA Premier Mike Rann announced the final approval for the 16 hectare development along with plans for the site at the old Clipsal and Origin sites at Bowden and a commitment to more than $264million over the next decade.

The Bowden Urban Village project will be Adelaide’s first high density community eventually expected to provide over 2,200 dwellings for more than 3,500 people.
“This development flags the beginning of a major transformation of Adelaide’s metropolitan landscape, setting a new national benchmark for higher density community living,” Mr Rann said.
Sustainability will be a key theme of the development with a minimum 5 star Green Star rating for almost all of the buildings and a range of green energy systems and waste production techniques.
The Property Council welcomed the announcement.
"This is a major jab in the arm for infill development, and Bowden Village will be the model that Adelaide's future infill communities will be based upon," Property Council (SA Division) executive director Nathan Paine said.
"Bowden Village will be Adelaide's first planned, high density, walkable community. It will soon become a beacon for home buyers and investors attracted to the appeal of new suburbs with inbuilt amenity.
"It will be easy to get around on foot, it's close to the CBD, it's surrounded by parks and it's close to jobs - it just makes sense."
Mr Rann said the site expected to generate $1 billion worth of investment before completion.
