ACT investors benefit from crime maps

"It is important for the community to have access to accurate data on crime trends in a user-friendly format, and these maps make it easier to for people to understand crime trends," Mr Corbell said.
The crime statistics will show accurate comparisons between suburbs by displaying offences per 1000 of the population rather than as a number. This will allow transparency for investors comparing suburbs, particularly when they are not familiar with an area.
"Having easily accessible data like this is important in a small community like the ACT where a small number of actual offences can see trends rise significantly as a percentage and lead to incorrect perceptions of crime,” said Mr Cobell.
Suburbs can be compared in table form, and the crime statistics for the town centres are also highlighted. Incident type, such as property damage and/or burglary, and the time period in which it occurred can be defined.
"Property crime is an area of criminality that is a concern to Canberrans, and the latest report card on policing services in the Territory shows a significant downward trend,” he said.
The crime maps also indicate the amount of homicides, traffic and Criminal Infringement Notices, offences against the person, road fatalities and road collisions with injuries.
