Melbourne's vacancy still climbing

Vacancy rates rose during June 2012, with a national rate of 2.0 per cent recorded, according to SQM Research.

Melbourne recorded the highest vacancy rate for the capital cities, at 3.0 per cent for the month of June with a total of 12,361 vacancies, representing the largest rise in the rate of any capital city.

Hobart saw the largest increase over the year, rising by 0.9 per cent to 2.7 per cent. The Tasmanian capital was, however, the only capital to have a reduced vacancy rate in June

Darwin recorded the lowest vacancy rate of the capital cities, at 0.4 per cent for the month of June and with a total of just 105 vacancies.

Darwin also recorded the biggest yearly fall in vacancy rates, dropping from 0.8 per cent at the same time last year to 0.4 per cent this year.
