NT looks to bring in overseas workers
The shortage of skilled workers in the Northern Territory is so severe that they have turned to Ireland to try and fill job vacancies.
A delegation from NT attended a ‘Working Abroad Expo’ in Dublin over the weekend to promote the jobs available in Australia’s north, particularly for hard-to-fill vacancies, said minister for business, Peter Chandler.

Government representatives were joined by spokespersons from Master Builders NT, Motor Trades Association, Australian Hoteliers Association and NT Pub Co.
“The Northern Territory is growing and a staggering 20,000 new jobs are predicted in the next five years,” said Mr Chandler.
“Training and skilling Territorians remains high on our agenda however the increase in demand will require additional workers from outside the Territory.
“If businesses are unable to find workers locally or nationally, migration opportunities may be the solution for filling the hard-to-fill roles.”
The Working Abroad website indicates that skilled overseas workers may be able to use the 457 visa or an Australian Working Holiday Visa.
Workers are encouraged to look at websites such as domain.com.au and realestate.com.au as well as seeking out furnished or short-term rentals on sites such as Stayz.
