Strata 101 workshop held in Sydney

A free City of Sydney Strata 101 workshop is being held in late November to teach inner-city apartment hunters insider tips and strategies.

The new series of workshops are the result of a City-commissioned study into the issues and needs of people living in high-density areas, and to outline the hurdles that inner-city apartment dwellers often encounter.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said 73.6 per cent of inner-Sydney residents lived in high-density strata-titled developments, so it was important renters and owners were educated about the common issues associated with strata living.

"Many people dream of owning their own apartment close to the heart of the city, but what they don't necessarily foresee are the many issues related to high-density strata living," the lord mayor said.

"Our hands-on workshops will provide practical advice and the opportunity to gain valuable skills and information to make your strata life more content.

"The workshops are also a great chance to meet other people who live in strata or are considering buying into a new strata scheme."

A recent University of NSW report highlighted a consistent range of issues for high-density developments and found a high number of owners and residents were underprepared to deal with the complexity of living in a high-rise community.

The Strata 101 workshops will explore and focus on ways to improve communication and build community to resolve common conflicts before they become larger problems.

Workshops include:

Strata Paws - Cats and dogs can be great companions for apartment dwellers, but have you thought about how your pet will settle into their new home and what effect your pooch's barking might have on the neighbours?

High Rise Matchmaking - There are many factors, such as location, size, price and design, which need to be considered when choosing an apartment. But have you thought about the elements that will make you feel part of your new community?

The first three of 13 workshops will be held this month and the remainder from February next year.

The workshops are free and open to inner-city renters and owners, but bookings are essential on 02 9265 9333 or whatson.cityofsydney.nsw.gov.au
