Change ahead for NSW suburbs
The NSW government is looking to transform a large amount of land in eight different areas, with the first recently announced.
Fourteen hectares of predominantly vacant and undeveloped land around North Ryde station is currently flagged for community feedback on plans to transform it into housing and employment, planning and infrastructure minister Brad Hazzard said.

This should be the first of another seven areas in New South Wales flagged for development under the Urban Activation Precincts program.
“The North Ryde precinct is a great opportunity to create a vibrant and active community with good access to public transport for local residents and workers,” Mr Hazzard said.
“Sydney needs about 27,000 new homes per year to cater for its predicted growth.
“While employment will be located within the precinct, residents will also be able to access other employment hubs along the Epping to Chatswood rail link.”
This North Ryde area would see an extra 2,500 dwellings, with more than 91,000sqm of commercial and retail floor space, bringing in 2,400 jobs. This will include both high-density and medium-density residential zoning.
Plans are available for comment until 30 April 2013.
This is part of an overall government objective to supply 172,000 new homes across Sydney, as outlined in the Metropolitan Plan 2036.
