20,000 properties for south west Sydney

A record level of land released for homes occurred in the first three months of 2013, making the development of 21,476 new homes possible, according to a state government announcement.

A new report from the Department of Planning and Infrastructure outlined this potential supply injection, pointing to several sites in Camden as having been rezoned. Similarly, up to 860 new homes could be a possibility on a 207-hectare site located near the Central Hills Business Park and Smeaton Grange industrial area.

Much of the locations chosen for rezoning are along the currently under construction South West rail link.

Executive director for infrastructure and planning strategies, Andrew Jackson, noted the new land is in response to significant demand in these areas.

“We are unlocking vital housing land for new homes in Sydney to meet the demands of the city’s growing population, delivering on our commitment in the Metropolitan Strategy to provide homes supported by transport and job opportunities," said Mr Jackson.

This comes as the number of home completions in Sydney over the past nine months in 2012/2013 exceeded the entirety of the figures seen in 2011/2012.
