The West Australian government’s Building Services Board has not renewed registration for Beyond Builders, a construction firm that had previously traded under the registration number BC103289.

The construction company is based in Dianella and was first registered as a building contractor in April 2020. The firm’s director is Atalla Abbas, who operates as a sole trader for both Beyond Builders and Consbuild.

The state board stated that after reviewing Beyond Builders’ application for registration renewal, along with a report prepared by Building and Energy, it found “the board was not satisfied the company met the financial requirements for renewal”.

The board’s decision “enables home owners with incomplete or defective building work by Beyond Builders to make a claim against their policy of home indemnity insurance (HII)”.

Currently, there are 13 home building projects that Beyond Builders has not yet completed, according to the Building Services Board.

Saj Abdoolakhan, Western Australia’s deputy director general for building and energy, stated that people with contracts and HII policies with Beyond Builders should contact insurance provider QBE.

“A key function of the Building Services Board is to assess applications to ensure registration is granted only to building providers who meet a range of requirements set out in the Building Services (Registration) Act 2011,” Abdoolakhan explained.

“This includes the capacity to meet debts as and when they fall due, meaning the service provider has the financial means to complete building contracts.

“The registration and renewal rules provide important consumer protections and bolster the confidence of all participants in WA’s building and construction industry.”

A financial assessment will be conducted for the director’s second company, Consbuild, as part of the renewal process for the business’s registration.
