Dodgy tradie on the loose: Sydney home owners warned about unlicensed builder
Home owners have been alerted about an unlicensed builder who may be engaging in serious misconduct in Sydney’s western areas.
The Building Commission NSW has warned property owners about Raveen Vishal Nand and RPN Homes Pty Ltd, following an investigation into the alleged misconduct.
According to the watchdog, Nand, the company’s sole director, may have carried out residential building work without the appropriate licence and misused another builder’s identity and licence details.
Additionally, Nand allegedly falsified Home Building Compensation Fund certificates and conducted significant defective work across multiple building sites.
The Building Commission said Nand and RPN Homes Pty Ltd were known to operate in parts of western Sydney, including Seven Hills, Rouse Hill, and Miller.
It said it was continuing its investigation, including undertaking inspections, and was also considering further enforcement action, which could stop work orders and/or court proceedings.
“If proved, the alleged misconduct identified in this investigation can attract severe penalties, including fines of up to $330,000 and 12 months imprisonment,” it said.
Commissioner James Sherrard said the watchdog took unlicensed work, falsified insurance certificates, and defective work very seriously.
“Our investigation has so far uncovered credible evidence and allegations that these offences have occurred and left home owners worse off because of it,” he said.
As the probe continued, he wanted to warn consumers, particularly in Western Sydney, not to deal with Nand or the company.
“I also want to remind consumers to check a tradesperson’s licence before handing over any money for a building contract, it’s as simple as visiting the Verify NSW website,” he concluded.
