The costly niche trades causing investors to tread carefully

After analysing 52,000 quotes, Service Seeking has release the most expensive niche trades that have seen prices driven up severely because of a lack of demand.

According to Service Seeking CEO Jeremy Levitt, these trades will remain pricey for a while for the foreseeable future.

“The few tradies that do work in these industries are never short of work and charge premium prices as customers grow desperate to get them done,” Mr Levitt said.

The top 10 most expensive niche trades from financial year 2016-17 are:

Trade Average cost per job
Stonework and masonry $3,438
Staircases $2,400
Cabinetmaking $1,576
Insulation installation $1,416
Carpet laying and installation $1,199
Garages, sheds and carports $643
Glass installation $560
Bathtub resurfacing $500
Tinting and films $360
Fridge repair $146

The reasoning behind these trades being so costly are also due to apprenticeships being at their lowest levels since 2004, according to claims by Service Seeking analysing data collected by the Victoria University research body Mitchell Institute.
